Top Overseas Sailors
Vincent Saunders rounds the bottom
mark ahead of Aevril Hibbard & Daniel Jones (Sailing Laser 4.7)
The wind blew stronger today with
larger waves, giving the 52 Laser sailors competing in
the 2007-08 Auckland Laser Championships an exciting and very tiring day. The Kiwi overnight
leader in the Standard Rig, David Weaver (ranked 25th
in the world), enjoyed the strong and shifty winds which were just a gentle Zephyr
for David as he comes from Wellington. He dominated the final day with
3 wins out of 3. This gave him the Championship over local favorite Michael Bullot (ranked 15th in the
World) and World Top Ten Ranked Sailor from Croatia, Luka
Radelic.
In the Women's Olympic Laser Radial Class Miranda
Powrie (ranked 36th in the World) was able to overcome overnight leader and
New Zealand Olympic representative Jo Aleh, who is optimising for the
very light winds expected at the 2008 Olympics, and the top ranked English
sailor Laura Baldwin. As the conditions got heavier and heavier Miranda was
able to use her great strength and sailing skills to get on the correct side of
